It is reported that the DIG of the CID Nuwan Wedasinghe has been transferred to the post of the Acting DIG of the Western Province with immediate effect at the request of a powerful politician.

Public attention was drawn this week to the comments made by the Cardinal where he questioned if the release of Rishard Bathiudeen’s brother Riyadh Bathiudeen is a political deal, with the president having to issue a statement saying it was not a political deal and that he would correct any wrongdoing on the part of an official.

However, with the release of Riyadh Bathiudeen, Rishad Bathiudeen’s pro-government behavior caused a serious controversy within the party and several powerful government ministers including Keheliya Rambukwella and Wimal Weerawansa had expressed their strong opposition to Rishad Bathiudeen’s readiness to join the ruling party. Several ministers were said to be preparing to resign.

DIG S.P Ranasinghe has been appointed in the place of Wedasinghe.
