The third day of the Afghanistan-Sri Lanka Test match showed Afghanistan’s batsmen mounting a strong response to Sri Lanka. After being bowled out for 199 runs in the first innings, the Afghanistan team made an impressive comeback, reaching 199 for one wicket.
Opener Ibrahim Sadran delivered a standout performance, achieving an unbeaten 101 runs, marking his maiden century. Sadran’s exemplary Test practice was evident as he faced 217 balls to secure his century. The first three batsmen displayed their Test skills, with Noor Ali Sadran contributing 47 runs off 136 balls.
Sri Lanka had previously concluded their first innings with 439 runs, featuring centuries from Dinesh Chandimal (107 runs) and Angelo Mathews (147 runs). Despite these strong performances, Sri Lanka faced challenges as five players, including Kusal Mendis and Dhananjaya de Silva, failed to score more than 10 runs.
By the end of the third day, Afghanistan was 199 for one wicket, trailing by 240 runs in the first innings. The Sri Lankan bowlers faced fatigue, and the pitch, described as a dead pitch with no help for bowlers, posed challenges. However, promising spinner Prabhat Jayasuriya showcased bounce and spin in the few overs bowled.
As the match heads into the fourth day, the Afghanistan team’s remarkable performance has shifted the dynamics, setting the stage for a crucial deciding period in the first half of the day.
