Residents of Kalpitiya say the seas off the area have started glowing in blue during the night. According to experts this phenomena is caused by Bioluminescent Plankton existing in the water.
This rare phenomenon apparently takes place when there is lots of bioluminescence in the water, usually from an algae bloom of plankton. The bioluminescent sea will glow when it’s disturbed by a wave breaking or a splash in the water at night.
