Sajith expresses dismay at Sri Lanka’s elephant death stats

Leader of the Opposition Sajith Premadasa has expressed his dismay after it was revealed in parliament that Sri Lanka has the country with the highest number of elephant deaths due to human-elephant conflict in the world. Tweeting Premadasa stressed that the government should pay attention to this matter immediately.

The Leader of the Opposition has pointed out that this is an unacceptable situation.He also pointed out that the responsible parties should take action in this regard as soon as possible.

Although the average number of elephants dying in Sri Lanka due to human-elephant conflict is 272 per year, 407 elephants have died during the past year the Chairman of the Committee, Prof. Tissa Vitarana revealed recently.
