The woman who left the lifeless body of a baby on a road in Mulleriya’s Kelanimulla area was located by the Mulleriya police.
The distressing incident unfolded when the Mulleriya police discovered the deceased infant on the side of Streetiyabandara Mawatha in the Kelanimulla area today afternoon (09). It was the local residents who notified the authorities about the tragic discovery.
A dedicated team of Mulleriya police officers promptly commenced investigations into the matter. Close to the lifeless body of the baby, small blood stains were detected. Tracking these stains for about half a kilometer led the officers to a residence in the Angammaruwa village.
Within the searched premises, a woman was discovered in a critical condition, confined to a room and moaning in pain. It was revealed that she had given birth to the baby the previous night (08) and subsequently left the infant by the side of the road.
The 26-year-old woman was apprehended and subsequently transported to Mulleria Hospital for necessary medical attention.
Further inquiries will extend to the woman’s husband.
To ascertain the circumstances surrounding this tragic occurrence, a coroner’s medical officer, Channa Perera, conducted an on-site inspection. Additionally, the magistrate’s on-site investigation is slated to transpire this evening (09).
