Responding to a question raised by journalists at an event held in Jaffna yesterday (30), Wigneswaran said that although Minister Sarath Weerasekara had made a proposal to provide military training to all persons above the age of 18, the proposal should be amended to suit Tamil people.

Wigneswaran said that if there were no trainers to provide Tamil youth in Sri Lanka with military training in Tamil they could be easily sourced from South India.

Wigneswaran also said that he had refrained from representing the National Independence Day celebrations in 1958 due to the Sinhala Language Act introduced by the government in 1956 when he was a student at the Royal College.
