Based on the report released by the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, the six countries that co-sponsored the resolution on Sri Lanka have stated that they will present a new resolution to the UN Human Rights Council this year to promote reconciliation, accountability and the promotion of human rights in Sri Lanka.

The United Kingdom, Canada, Germany, Northern Macedonia, Montenegro and Malawi also issued a joint statement stating that it was important for the UN Human Rights Commission to continue to consider Sri Lanka.

An earlier resolution to the UN Human Rights Council on Sri Lanka was co-sponsored by the previous government, which was withdrawn by the current government last year.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lankan government had sent a special letter to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi requesting his support at the Geneva sessions.
