The South Western Monsoon is establishing over the island and will result in continuous heavy rains according to the Department of Meteorology.

Nearly 30 percent of Sri Lanka’s annual rainfall received is from the South Western Monsoon which blows across the country through May.
Accordingly, showers or thunderstorms will occur at several places in the Western, Sabaragamuwa, Central, North-Western, and Southern provinces and in the Kalutara, Galle, Matara, Ratnapura, Kegalle and Nuwara Eliya districts.
Thundershowers will develop at several places in the Eastern and Uva provinces during the evening. The Department also stressed that lightning storms could also occur with rain.
