Slain Journalist Nimalarajan Remembered

This year marks the 20th death anniversary of the journalist who was killed in 2000

Tamil journalist, Mylvaganam Nimalarajan, was remembered yesterday (19) across the North-East of Sri Lanka by media colleagues. This year marks the 20th anniversary of his assassination. 

Nimalarajan, a senior journalist contributed to the BBC Tamil and Sinhala services, the Tamil daily Virakesari, and Sinhala weekly Ravaya. He was killed on October 19, 2000.

The Eelam People’s Democratic Party (EPDP) a paramilitary group at the time, was suspected of carrying out the killing. According to the Committee to Protect Journalists, it suspected that Nimalarajan’s reporting on vote-rigging and intimidation during the 2000 parliamentary elections in Jaffna led to his murder
