school children to receive Covid vaccines after August

The Government plans to vaccinate all Sri Lankan school children between the ages of 12 and 18 within this year, Mr Lalith Weeratunga, Chief Presidential Adviser and Coordinating Adviser to the Vaccination Program, said.

He told Neth Radio that the type of the vaccine would be decided on the vaccine on expert’s advice and had not yet decided whether it was Pfizer, Moderna or Sinopharm jabs.
The Presidential Advisor explained that the vaccination is active with two main targets and that the first group includes those over 30 years of age and that the vaccination can be completed by August 31.
He said the second phase would include the 12-30-year-old group, which would be divided into two groups and vaccinated.
He explained that the first group was 19-30 years old and the second group was 12-18 years old.
He pointed out that all necessary arrangements have been made to import the relevant vaccine as soon as the experts’ recommendations are received.
