President Gotabhaya meets Latvian President – The duo talk about the composition of the UN Security Council

A meeting between President Gotabhaya Rajapaksa and the President of the Republic of Latvia Egils Levits took place yesterday afternoon (21) at which the leaders of the two countries focused on the need to change the composition of the UN Security Council and the need for greater representation in Asia, South Africa, the Middle East and South America. The meeting took place during the 76th session of the UN General Assembly and the two leaders agreed that strong steps should be taken to further the 25-year diplomatic relations between the two countries.
The two leaders discussed the impact of the Kovid Epidemic on the economy and society and exchanged views on measures to be taken for the betterment of the tourism industry in the two countries as the epidemic subsides.

The two leaders also focused on enhancing cooperation between the two countries in the fields of education and digital technology.
Prof. GL Peiris, Minister of External Affairs, Lalith Weeratunga, Chief Adviser to the President, Admiral Jayanath Colombage, Foreign Secretary and Mohan Peiris, Permanent Representative of Sri Lanka to the United Nations were also present at the discussion.
