PM talks about giving loans to people facing hardships

Prime Minister and Finance Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa today instructed the heads of state banks to adopt a lenient policy in granting loans to rescue people in various economic crises.

The Prime Minister stated this at a progress review meeting of the Ministry of Finance held recently.

The Prime Minister told the bank chiefs not to unnecessarily inconvenience the people who have difficulty in repaying loans and those who come to get new loans in the banks.

Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Minister of Finance also drew attention to the difficulties faced by the public in verifying the data of the Sri Lanka Credit Information Bureau (CRIB).

Mahinda Rajapaksa drew attention to the issue of disqualifying a person from obtaining a loan as his name was included in the Sri Lanka Credit Information Bureau (CRIB) just because he was a guarantor.

Meanwhile Minister of State Shehan Semasinghe said that the previous government had specially provided Samurdhi assistance to the party members.

The Prime Minister instructed to look into this and take necessary steps to provide Samurdhi to all low income families without any political differences.
