Despite the ban on the importation of palm oil, there is no impediment to the local production of palm oil to the local market said the Minister of Trade Dr. Bandula Gunawardena in Parliament today. He further stated that import license of palm oil would be introduced for industries that use palm oil and related products as ingredients of food products.
Responding to questions raised in the parliament today on the import ban of palm oil , Minister Bandula Gunawardena said that it was difficult to implement the ban on palm oil imports at the same time. And approval for the importation of related products will be granted under a licensing system
