Sapugaskanda thermal power plant which supplies 160 megawatts to the national grid has been shut down due to the shortage of diesel.
The trade unions say that the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) thermal power plants, which provided 15.07 percent of the national electricity requirement yesterday, will only have enough fuel for a few days.
In a situation where the supply of fuel to the Ceylon Electricity Board by the Ceylon Petroleum Corporation has been suspended Electricity trade union says a power shortage would be inevitable.
Commenting on this, the convener of the Ceylon Electricity Board (CEB) Joint Trade Union Alliance Ranjan Jayalal said that the required number of candles should be brought in before the queue of candles is formed as a solution to the forthcoming power cuts.
Ranjan Jayalal also stated,
“In a few weeks hydro power will be in crisis. The government says coal is sufficient for six months. Coal will only last six months if it can continue to generate electricity from hydro power and oil. ”
“We already believe that there will be a power cut without telling the people. There is already a shortage of kerosene. If there is a power cut, there will be more queues to buy kerosene. If you do not hurry, there will be a shortage of candles. Take care of that. “
