New strain of Dengue may increase the number of patients – Experts warn

 

More than 700 dengue cases have been reported across the country in the last three days alone The National Dengue Control Unit warns.

Professor Chandima Jeevandara, director of the Institute of Allergy, Immunology and Cell Biology of the University of Sri Jayawardenepura, says that with the new strain of dengue spreading in the country, the number of dengue cases may increase further.

The data shows that the disease is spreading rapidly mostly in the Western Province, and in the last three days, about 300 dengue patients have been found in the Western Province alone.

The Dengue Control Unit says that the districts of Colombo and Gampaha in the Western Province have already been identified as dengue high-risk areas, while the disease is also spreading in the districts of Kalutara and Batticaloa.

It is reported that about 30,000 dengue cases have been reported in the first four months, of which 15 patients have died.Meanwhile, Sri Jayawardenepura University has also conducted a study on dengue antibodies in children.
