A new law to act on properties earned fraudulently from next month

The cabinet of ministers of Sri Lanka has approved the proposal to bring in laws to confiscate property acquired through commission fraud, corruption and bribery Minister of Justice, Prisons and Constitutional Reform Dr. Wijayadasa Rajapaksa said. The minister said this while addressing the media in Kandy yesterday (26).

He said that the cabinet approved this yesterday (25th) for the draft of the Bill of properties earned from a crime. The draft will be submitted to the parliament next month, and several bills which had not been brought for 25 years were passed in the last two years.

He also emphasized that the best possible decisions will be taken after discussing and agreeing with the cabinet.

The bill has come forward according to the agreement with the International Monetary Fund related to their extended financial facility. The government appointed an expert panel to consult on the policies related to the proposed bill.
