Navy seizes another 250 Kilo of narcotics – over 01 Ton caught within 04 months!

Another foreign fishing vessel carrying 250 Kilo grams of narcotics along with six foreign suspects was arrested during a special operation in the international waters Navy said.

Following a tip-off received by the Sri Lanka Navy, the Navy in collaboration with the Police Narcotics Bureau conducted a special surveillance operation in Sri Lanka 900 nautical miles (1665 km) south of the international sea for several consecutive days. The fishing vessel and the six foreign suspects aboard the vessel are currently being brought ashore under the protection of a Sri Lanka Navy ship.

It is believed that the consignment of drugs weighed about 250 kilograms and was packed in 225 packets in nine (09) bags seized by the Navy.

The suspects are to be handed over to the Police Narcotics Bureau for further investigations and legal action against the six foreign fishing vessels and the six foreign suspects who were carrying the drugs after being brought ashore in the next few days.

During the recent large scale narcotics raids conducted by the Sri Lanka Navy in the deep sea, the Navy seized 1052 kilos of narcotics during operations conducted from August 2021 to date. The amount is more that one Metric Ton.

In addition to the stock of narcotics seized during the operation, the Navy has seized more than 13.16 billion rupees worth of narcotics this year alone.
