Names of tax evading Sri Lankan companies to be publicized

It was decided at the Committee on Public Accounts yesterday (06) that the list of large non-taxpaying companies will be made public by the media in the future.

Chairman of the Committee Prof. Tissa Vitharana instructed the Inland Revenue Department to submit the list of tax evading companies to the Committee within two months.

The Auditor General WPC Wickramaratne told the Committee that steps should be taken to recover the tax as soon as possible, thereby increasing government revenue.

The Committee on Public Accounts also discussed the need for the Ministry of Justice and the Ministry of Finance to work together to expedite the settlement of a number of Inland Revenue cases in the courts.

The Special Audit Report on Taxes and Penalties owed to taxpayers was discussed at the Committee on Public Accounts yesterday.
