The Minister of Water Supply and Estate Infrastructure Development Jeevan Thondaman, who is the youngest member of Sri Lanka’s cabinet staged a protest in front of the Nuwara Eliya police station yesterday (01) and raised a strong protest against the complaint made by the Nuwara Eliya Police regarding the incident taking hostage of a team of the company including the CEO of Kelani Valley Plantation Company, Anura Weerakoon. Pressuring them to withdraw the complaint, they protested and it is reported that they stayed with their group for more than an hour.
Minister Jeevan Thondaman came to Pedro Estate in Nuwara Eliya, where the company’s head office is located, protesting the temporary suspension of two employees of an estate belonging to the Kelani Valley Plantation Company and their non-reemployment. The police did not allow it and it was reported that the estate company group was under intense pressure for several hours.
It is also reported that the Minister, who came to Nuwara Eliya and protested against the complaint, challenged the police to arrest him if possible. However, he had left the place saying that the police had withdrawn the complaint against him, but the plantation company claimed that they had not withdrawn the complaint.
