MEPA retains two PCs to assist the AG

The Sri Lanka Marine Environmental Protection Authority has retained two President’s Counsels to assist the Attorney General’s Department.

The two counsels will assist in the case filed by AG in Singapore seeking compensation for the marine pollution and damage caused to Sri Lankan beaches and marine life by the X-Press Pearl disaster.

Chairman of the Marine Environment Protection Authority, Asela Rekawa, said that President’s Counsel Ronald Perera and President’s Counsel Chandaka Jayasundara were retained by the MEPA, and the Attorney General’s Department was informed about the matter.

He said that MEPA will provide the necessary support to the Attorney General’s Department through the two counsel.

The case filed by Sri Lanka before a court in Singapore demanding compensation for the damage caused to Sri Lanka’s marine environment due to the Xpress Pearl maritime disaster is currently being examined.
