Litro Lanka President Muditha Peiris clarified that Litro Lanka did not increase the gas price and that the price hike was due to the government’s decision to impose an 18 percent Value Added Tax (VAT) on gas, which was previously exempt from VAT.
Peiris emphasized that if not for the imposition of VAT, Litro Gas could have maintained the price of a 12.5 kg cylinder at 3,700 rupees. He noted that this is the first time VAT has been applied to LP gas, and the company had to comply with the government’s decision, leading to the necessity of a price increase. He made it clear that Litro Lanka did not initiate the price hike independently but was responding to the government’s tax policy.
