A lion in the Dehiwala National Zoo has been diagnosed with ‘Covid’ disease. According to the sources that this has been confirmed by an investigation, the Divaina newspaper reported today (18).
Covid is said to have been infected by a male saffron lion named Thor, who lived on the zoo’s Lion Island and was brought to the zoo from South Korea in 2012.
According to the newspaper, the lion had been suffering from a cough and a sore throat for several days.
Meanwhile, two keepers in charge of the Lion Cage have been quarantined in the zoo and another guard at home, the Divaina newspaper said.
In the days leading up to the lion’s illness, a zoo cub and an adult hippopotamus died suddenly.
