Islandwide operation to nab human traffickers – Progress to be reviewed in every fortnight!

Labor and Foreign Employment Minister Manusha Nanayakkara and Public Security Minister Tiran Allas and the senior official;s jointly decided enforce the law to nab and prosecute persons involved in human trafficking regardless of rank. It was decided in a special discussion held today (16) with senior officials at the ministry.

It has also been decided to hold an officer-level progress review every two weeks regarding the progress of measures taken against people involved in human trafficking.

Based on the information received by the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau regarding Sri Lankans involved in human trafficking both domestically and abroad, raids are being carried out continuously and thus the raids are scheduled to be accelerated.

Meanwhile, it has also been decided to implement a program to educate people about human trafficking .

For this discussion IGP C.D. Wickramaratne was accompanied by senior police officers, senior officials of the Immigration Department and senior officials of the Sri Lanka Foreign Employment Bureau.
