If the government fails to get the 21st amendment approved by Parliament, the Prime Minister and the other parties in Parliament are contemplating dissolving Parliament and holding Parliamentary general elections.
Although the political atmosphere is not conducive to holding elections, the parties concerned have pointed out that there is no alternative if the government goes back on the pledge to fulfil people’s aspirations.
” There was no concrete decision as such, but there is a dialogue within government circles of the impending political crisis if the government fails in its pursuit to get the 21 st amendment approved by Parliament. Ministerial sources said.
The response of the SLPP to the 21st amendment was not encouraging while pinpointing that the SLPP had its way when electing the deputy speaker. The Minister concerned said.
However, he said they were looking at all possible alternatives to get the 21st amendment approved and provide the people with all basic requirements essential for daily life before a Parliamentary general election.
