Four arrested with 30 million worth of Ambergris

The Mullaitivu Magistrate’s Court on May 20 remanded Four suspects have been arrested with two and a half kilograms of ambergris, a waste product worth about 30 million rupees.

The suspects were apprehended and handed over to the Mullaitivu Police on a tip off received by the STF at Mullaitivu when they were preparing to buy amber from Anuradhapura and Puttalam.

There was a woman among the four suspects, who arrived in two vehicles . They were arrested when they brought by the owners near the Wattuwal Bridge to buy a stock of amber.

Mullaitivu police is conducting investigations.

This amber is produced in Whale’s body from a excretion released from the gallbladder of whales. It is expelled from the body once in a while and has a strong odor when it is excreted.

These compounds are of great value because of their ability to retain the aroma of perfumes for a long time.
