Following the transfer of Weerasuriya, a senior Superintendent of Police from the Police Headquarters has been appointed to the Bribery Commission, but the Bribery and Corruption Commission has stated that the recruitment should be done after a formal interview.

The Bribery Commission is working to delay the release of Weerasuriya until such a recruitment.

SSP Weerasuriya was the first female Director of Investigation in the history of the Commission to Investigate Bribery or Corruption. It must also be noted that it was Police officers that were the most investigated police during her tenure.
