Emergency spot buying of gas and fuel; Political touts aim for their prey

Political touts are on the prowl and are now encamped around influential politicians to get the approval of the government to import gas and fuel from foreign companies under the aegis of the government for emergency spot purchases.

According to sources, several foreign entities have agreed to pay a commission of Rs. 30-40 million for the importation of a fuel or gas tanker.

Insiders say some of these proposals come with relief packages.

Several suppliers have expressed their willingness to pay even more to local agents depending on their ability to strike a deal for continuous fuel supplies.

Accordingly, brokers have selected those with political clout especially former MPs and ministers, to obtain approval. Insiders say that these people have launched operations to get the opportunity for their principals in foreign destinations.
