A group of senior politicians of the UNP have suggested to its leader Ranil Wickramasinghe that a vote should be held to appoint a new leader and working committee for the party.
The seniors have pointed out that a number of UNP stalwarts have left the party due to the leadership crisis over the years and asked Wickramasinghe not to allow the same to happen yet again and to therefore resolve the crisis immediately.

Wickramasinghe has reportedly agreed to discuss the matter at length during the next working commitee meeting.
Currently Ruwan Wijewardane, Karu Jayasuriya and Wajire Abeywardene are vying for the top spot.
