Rewriting history, former U.S. President Donald Trump became the first U.S. president to be convicted of a crime yesterday (30). He was convicted after a New York jury found him guilty of falsifying documents to cover up a payment to silence a porn star ahead of his 2016 election.
Following two days of deliberations, the 12-member jury pronounced the former president guilty on all 34 felony counts he faced.
Meanwhile, Justice Juan Merchan set sentencing for July 11. The sentencing will be just days before the Republican Party plans to formally nominate Trump for president ahead of the Nov. 5 election.
The Defense Lawyer of former president Trump, Todd Blanche said in an interview with Fox News that Trump expects to appeal the trial judge’s decision not to recuse himself.
Responding to the question on whether Blanche believes that the former president got a fair trial, he said that he does not think the former president got a fair trial.
The former President and his lawyers repeatedly argued Judge Merchan should not have presided over the case, suggesting that he had shown signs of bias.
Trump who emerged from the court spoke to the media and said he will keep fighting until the end.
The former president also lashed out at the court and claimed he was unfairly treated.
“This is far from over,” he said.
As Donald Trump’s lawyers requested a mid-date in July for sentencing the prosecutors agreed on that decided to sentence on 11th July at 10.00 AM (US time)
