Dilshan Madhushanka Ruled Out of Remaining Matches Due to Injury

Dilshan Madhushanka, who sustained an injury during Sri Lanka’s second ODI against Bangladesh, has been ruled out of the remainder of the tour after an MRI scan confirmed a left hamstring injury.

According to a statement released by Sri Lanka Cricket on today (17) morning, Madhushanka will return to Sri Lanka for rehabilitation following the diagnosis of his injury.

Team manager Mahinda Halangoda stated that the MRI scan revealed a small tear in Madhushanka’s hamstring, indicating a fresh injury. While the exact duration of his recovery remains uncertain, Madhushanka will undergo reassessment by the medical team at the High Performance Center upon his return to Sri Lanka. However, he will not be available for the remaining ODIs, as confirmed by Halangoda.

During the second ODI at the Zahoor Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram, Madhushanka contributed significantly, opening the bowling and claiming the first two Bangladesh wickets. However, he was forced to leave the field after bowling only 6.4 overs due to the injury.

Madhushanka, alongside his Sri Lankan counterpart Nuwan Thushara, was recently acquired by the Mumbai Indians in the IPL auction held last December. Mumbai Indians invested 4.6 crore Indian rupees (approximately 554,000 US dollars) in Madhushanka, strengthening their fast-bowling lineup.

With Mumbai Indians boasting a formidable squad of fast bowlers including Jasprit Bumrah, Jason Behrendorff, and Nuwan Thushara, Madhushanka’s injury poses a challenge for his participation in the upcoming IPL matches. The setback may potentially hinder his availability for the initial fixtures of the tournament.
