DG of Agriculture ignores letter of demand by Chinese fertilizer company !

 

Dr. Ajantha de Silva, Director General of the Department of Agriculture says that they are not concerned or worried about the letter of demand to Director of National Plant Quarantine Service from Chinese Fertilizer Company, Qwingdao Seawin Biotech.

The Director General said that the matter has been taken to court and that legal action is being taken in this regard.
Dr. Ajantha de Silva said that the Plant Quarantine Center in Sri Lanka is working with 183 countries around the world in accordance with international quarantine conventions and that the Plant Quarantine Center in Sri Lanka has the competency to protect the sovereignty of each country as stated in the relevant agreement.

The Director General of Agriculture said that he did not know why the Chinese Ambassador went to the Ministry of Agriculture yesterday (8) and that he might discuss the issue of the stock of fertilizer.

Apart from the relevant stock of fertilizers, organic fertilizers registered with the Fertilizer Secretariat will be imported to Sri Lanka and samples of organic fertilizers from other countries including China will be imported to check whether they comply with the standards of the Plant Quarantine Center and the Sri Lanka Standards Institution, the Director General said.
