Cowpox is spreading in Kilinochchi.

 

Over 65 head of cattle have died in two days due to the spread of the deadly cowpox in the area, an official of the Kilinochchi Veterinary Office said.
The cowpox infection caused by a virus was prevalent in the area in 2000.
This time, the highest number of cattle deaths occurred in the Pooneryn, Karachi, Palai, Uruthirapuram, and Neville areas of Kilinochchi.
Younger cattle are mostly affected by this disease. The cattle develop large blisters all over their bodies after contracting a fever.
In the year 2000, 3347 cows died due to cowpox in Kilinochchi.
Reports said that it was a viral disease. The cattle get infected by flies and mosquitoes.
This time too, the number of cattle dying in Kilinochchi has increased by the day because no cure has been found for the cowpox that is spreading throughout Kilinochchi.
