Bus Lane : Bus commuters want three wheelers and motorcycles out!

Releasing a statement the All Ceylon Bus Commuters’ Association strongly condemns the forcible addition of motorcycles and three-wheelers to bus priority lanes, causing inconvenience to bus passengers and violating world-accepted road safety standards.

“According to the Extraordinary Gazette Notification No. 1940/21 issued on 12th November 2015, the bus priority lane is reserved for public transport and there is no legal validity to add motorcycles to that lane.” the Association’s convenor Vimukthi Dushantha pointed out.

“Accordingly, we strongly urge the police and transport authorities to reverse this decision which is causing harassment to bus passengers, motorcyclists and three wheelers, increasing the risk of road accidents and further increasing traffic congestion and allocating the bus priority lane only for public transport.” the release said.

Bus Operators have also voiced their opposition against the decision.
