Samantha (45), also known as Army Samantha, has been apprehended by the Negombo Criminal Investigation Department in relation to the contract killing of a young bodybuilder who worked as a car park administrator in the Pitipana, Lellama area of Negombo.
The suspect was presented in court yesterday (15).
Negombo Chief Magistrate Champika Rajapaksa ordered the suspect to be remanded until the 29th pending further investigation.
The arrested individual, who has previously served in the army and is a resident of Kehelalle, Badalgama, is allegedly involved in money lending business.
Investigations have uncovered that the suspect carried out the killing on contract, suspecting that the victim had an affair with his wife. The suspect is reported to have committed the crime while in remand for a separate criminal charge, based on information he received about his wife’s alleged affair.
However, further investigation has revealed that the suspect’s wife was actually having an affair with a fish businessman who had close ties to the victim. This new development has led authorities to shift their focus towards the involvement of the fish businessman in the case.
A high-ranking police officer indicated that the fish businessman is under scrutiny and further inquiries will be conducted to ascertain his role in the incident.
Additionally, evidence has emerged that the suspect, Amy Samantha, visited the Lellama area on a motorcycle to plan the shooting before the actual event took place. The police have taken possession of the motorcycle and the suspect’s mobile phone as part of their investigation.
