The Minister of Education and Higher Education has issued another statement today (21) regarding the proposal made by MP Rohini Kumara Kaviratne to postpone the Advanced Level (A-Level) examinations until the third week of January. This proposal received positive discussion in Parliament yesterday (20).
The Minister stated that a definitive announcement regarding the rescheduled date for the A/L examination will be made next week. He emphasized the need to carefully consider the implications of postponing the 2023 A/L examination to January 2024.
The potential consequences of such a postponement include the rescheduling of the 2023 AL Examination from March and April 2024 to May and June 2024. Subsequently, the 2023 A/L results would be released in July 2024. Applicants for the 2024 A/L examination would then require additional preparation time.
As a result, the 2024 A/L examination might also face delays, likely extending until December or January 2025. Such delays could impact the ongoing efforts to address educational system challenges.
Moreover, the irregularity of school examinations might further disrupt school schedules, potentially affecting the admission process for first-grade students. Additionally, delays in the release of A/L results could lead to postponements in university admissions.
