Only random sampling will tell about the African variant

New Covid variant detected in South Africa could enter Sri Lanka at any time, Deputy Director-General of Health Services Dr Hemantha Herath said today. However, Health authorities are vigilant on the threat and ready to face accordingly DDG further said.

Addressing the media Dr Hemantha Herath said that a new variant could be identified in the country only if it was detected through random samples taken for testing.

” We can come to know that the particular variant has entered Sri Lanka only if it was detected through a random sampling. . There is no any other mechanism elsewhere to trace it whether it has touched the grounds,” he said.
