A House for Thasleem: The man who could have stopped the Easter attack

A fundraiser to build a home for Mohamed Rasi Mohamed Thasleem who helped CID with information on Islamist extremists has been initiated by the Aranya Foundation.

He had supported the Criminal Investigation Department in its investigations into the vandalization of statues in Mawanella and the recovery of explosives in Wanathavilluwa. As a result of this, he was shot in the head by Thawheed Jamaadh extremist group in March 2019 but survived. At the time Thasleem was the coordinating Secretary to former MP Kabir Hasheem.

However, his left side of the body is now paralyzed due to the injuries made to his brain. It has been noted that the Easter Sunday attack could have prevented had the previous government acted upon the available intel from the sources including Thasleem.

Thasleem is a father of 3 kids without a shelter or a fixed income today. Therefore, aranya.lk foundation came forward to help him build a home. “It is our duty to help and uplift the life of this hero who almost got killed by a bullet of the extremists,” the foundation said.
