27 Cases files against Maithri , Ranil by Easter Sunday victims

Relatives of those killed and injured in the Easter Sunday Islamic terror attack of 21st April 2019 have filed 27 cases claiming compensations from the persons accountable including former President Maithripala Sirisena and Former PM Ranil Wickramasinghe in the Colombo District Court today.

Former President Maithripala Sirisena, former Defense Secretary Hemasiri Fernando, Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe, former Inspector General of Police Pujith Jayasundara and former Director of State Intelligence DIG Nilantha Jayawardena have been named as respondents.

The petitions state that their relatives died and others were permanently paralyzed due to the intelligence agencies’ failure to prevent the suicide attack on Easter Sunday.

The petitioners contended that the respondents were able to prevent the suicide attack and sought compensation from the respondents for the serious damage caused to their relatives by not doing so.
