Navy spokesperson Captain Gayan Wickramasuriya confirmed that a significant quantity of drugs were seized in the joint operation that intercepted the multi-day fishing vessel in Galle Sea area.
Six individuals were apprehended in connection with the operation. The seized drugs comprised 150 kg of ice (crystal methamphetamine) and 50 kg of heroin, packed in 48 packets.
The arrested individuals were identified as fishermen residing in Galle and Beruwala areas. The multi-day fishing vessel had set sail from the Galle fishing harbor before being intercepted.
The operation was a collaborative effort between the Sri Lankan Navy’s Intelligence Division and the Police Narcotics Bureau.
