20 MW of installed roof top solar systems await for final approval!

There are around 20 MW of solar systems have been already installed in rooftops which are pending fo approval process and if the approval process get fast tracked these power can be added to the national grid within few days Kushan Jayasuriya, President of the Solar Energy Industry Association, said .

A number of rooftop solar panels are currently in the final stages of approval to be connected to the national grid after completing all the technical specifications. He stated that it is possible when Lankasara inquired about this.
Kushan Jayasuriya further stated that this would be a step towards providing some relief to the national grid in the face of the current severe energy crisis.
Speaking further the President of the Solar Energy Industries Association said, “At present, solar power units installed on the roofs of the country provide 480 megawatts of electricity to the national grid. In addition, ground-mounted solar panels provide a capacity of about 100 megawatts. But in the last two years or so, no significant progress has been made with regard to solar energy. If steps were taken in this regard, renewable energy would have been able to add a higher percentage to our national grid. But we do not know the reason. Nothing progressive has happened in the last two years. ”
Many solar panels on the roofs where all construction work has been completed have not been connected to the national grid due to non-completion of the approval process. This is mostly due to issues regarding the coordination between the various divisions within the Ceylon Electricity Board. At the moment of this crisis, if we expedite this process further, we will be able to add them to the national grid very soon, ”said Jayasuriya.
