Although the management of the Sri Lankan team has ensured that the passports of all members should return, however it has failed to prevent them from leaving, according to foreign media reports.

According to a report by AFP, British police found the first three members of the missing group but did not take any action against them as all three had visas valid for six months and had not broken any laws in the country.

The Sri Lankan authorities, who believe that the fugitives will remain in England and look for work, have told the foreign media that the English police have not provided any information about the three fugitives.

Hindustan Times reports this incident as follows:

“Sri Lanka is facing the worst economic and political crisis in its 76-year history. An acute shortage of foreign exchange has affected the supply of necessities like food, fuel and other essentials in the country.”

A team of 161 athletes and officials participated in this year’s Commonwealth Games, representing Sri Lanka.
