A recent audit report issued by the National Audit Office has revealed that 139 vacancies in several senior-level positions at the National Building Research Organisation (NBRO) have severely affected the institution’s efficiency.

According to the report, there are 49 vacancies across five senior-level positions. The post of Director (Administration) has remained vacant since 2022. In addition, 47 vacancies exist in four other senior positions—Senior Scientist, Scientist, Manager (Technical Laboratory), and Director (Finance). Of these, 39 vacancies are in the posts of Senior Scientist and Scientist.

The audit office has recommended that urgent action be taken to fill these vacancies, as they directly impact the operational efficiency of the NBRO.

In response, the management of the NBRO has informed the audit office that steps have been taken to recruit for the post of Director (Human Settlements, Planning and Training) and seven Senior Scientist positions from among the approved cadre.

The management further stated that 26 Scientist positions have been referred to the Review Committee of the Prime Minister’s Office for approval for recruitment, and that the remaining vacancies will be filled in line with the organisation’s requirements.
