Cabinet Spokesman Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa announced today (10) during the Cabinet press briefing that the Speaker of Parliament would issue a statement clarifying his doctoral degree and educational qualifications.
Dr. Jayatissa made this remark in response to questions raised by reporters regarding the Speaker’s academic credentials.
Notably, the official website of the Sri Lankan Parliament has recently removed the title “Dr.” from the section dedicated to the Speaker, further fueling public speculation.
Addressing the issue, Dr. Jayatissa stated:
“Various groups have raised concerns about this matter. I noticed similar discussions about my own credentials in the past. The Speaker will provide a clear and detailed explanation regarding his educational qualifications. This issue has become a focal point for the opposition, giving them an opportunity to continue their criticisms. A very responsible statement will be made by the Speaker soon.”
The Cabinet Spokesman added that once the Speaker clarifies his qualifications, appropriate steps will be decided based on the outcome.
