Horana Magistrate Chandana Kalansuriya yesterday (24) ordered to immediately arrest the Secretary of the Labour Ministry, Ananda Wimalaweera and produce him before the magistrate. The Magistrate made this order while he takes up the case of the deaths of five people falling into a chemical storage tank of a Rubber factory in Horana.
The Magistrate issued a warrant to the police and further said that the secretary should be arrested within 07 days.
While hearing the case yesterday Kalutara Crime Division of the Police said that The secretary was the former Commissioner General of Labour and he was accused of interfering and influencing the Chief Engineer of the company to give their statements in favour of the said Rubber company.
The Police officer appeared on behalf of the Police and further revealed that although the former Commissioner General who holds currently the position of Ministry secretary was summoned to the police to record a statement he has not turned in. After considering the facts produced before the courts the Magistrate issued a warrant order to immediately arrest the accused secretary.
