The US Coast Guard has confirmed the detection of underwater noises in the search area for the missing Titanic sub.
It was a Canadian P-3 aircraft that “detected underwater noises in the search area” for the missing Titanic sub.
Described as “banging sounds” in internal US government memos, the origin and duration of these noises remain unclear, according to Rolling Stone and CNN reports.
The miniature sub, carrying five individuals, including British-Pakistani businessman Shahzada Dawood, his son Suleman, and British billionaire explorer Hamish Harding, lost contact on Sunday during its descent to the Titanic wreck off the coast of Newfoundland, Canada. Search authorities estimate that the vessel has less than 30 hours of oxygen remaining.
Joining the expedition is Paul-Henry Nargeolet, a former French Navy diver with previous experience exploring the Titanic, and Stockton Rush, the CEO of OceanGate, the company leading the dive.
As the race against time intensifies, efforts to locate the missing sub continue amidst the hope of a successful rescue mission.
