The former leader of the Tamil National Alliance and the Member of Parliament Rajavarothiam Sampanthan passed away last night at the age of 91.
He was the eldest member in the Sri Laka Parliament represented Illankai Tamil Arasu Kachchi and functioned as the Opposition Leader from 2015 to 2018.
The senior politician passed away while undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Colombo.
Mr. Sampanthan represented the Parliament continuously from 2001 until his demise for over 23 years. he was first elected to Parliament in 1977 and remained in the seat until 1983. Then he was again in the Parliament from 1997 to 2000.
