Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra de Silva says that we as a country have to admit that we were clearly overconfident about the Covid situation in the country. He points out that the first time in about 50 days that we were able to eradicate the Covid 19 virus from society and therefore it created an overestimation of control and that society as a whole underestimated it.
In an interview with veteran journalist Chamuditha Samarawickrema’s Truth with Chamuditha’s YouTube channel, the Army Commander pointed out that although we controlled the Covid epidemic significantly at the beginning, it was later neglected and ignored.
Speaking further, Army Commander Lt. Gen. Shavendra Silva said that despite the public being made aware of the dangers of the Covid outbreak and the health risks, there has been no concern regarding the epidemic in the country in the recent past.
”As a country, it was the people who gave us the victory we needed to succeed in the first phase of the Covid pandemic. They acted properly at that time. But any regulation can be made. You can set rules. What will happen if people do not follow them? ”
The Army Commander Shavendra Silva pointed out that the country is in a critical situation at the moment in terms of health and economy but that no one has ever instructed him to hide the truth about Covid patients or statistics. He said that only the truth will be told to the people.
