MP Tissa Attanayake told Lankasara that steps have already been taken to build a broad political movement in the next few weeks under the leadership of Samagi Janabalawegaya against the anti-democratic activities of the government.
He said that a number of forces including political parties, civil society organizations, religious and social organizations as well as major trade unions have already agreed to join the new political movement.
Attanayake said that due to the current actions of the government, there are indications that a number of social, economic, and political issues will arise in the near future. He said the new movement will therefore seek to remove the current government from power.
He pointed out that the country is moving towards a dictatorial regime through the 20th amendment which the government is planning to bring in by repealing the 19th amendment to the constitution which was passed with the consent of all political parties and the people of the country will have to face severe policy consequences in the future as well.
Attanayake further stated that even though a short period of time has elapsed since the formation of the present government, the government is now in a state of internal conflict and steps will be taken in the near future to mobilize the people.
