The Matara District Head of the Consumer Affairs Authority has stated that fines amounting to Rs. 70,000 has been levied on traders who were caught selling turmeric powder at a higher price in the Matara District.
Taking advantage of the shortage of turmeric powder in the market these days, some traders have been caught selling turmeric powder at a price of Rs. 3,000 per kilo while the control price for turmeric powder is Rs. 750, said the Matara District Head of the Consumer Affairs Authority.
Consumers have also complained that some vendors have been caught mixing different types of flour with turmeric powder
The Matara District Head of the Consumer Affairs Authority further stated that raids will be carried out until this is rectified.
