Foreign Minister Dinesh Gunawardena will address the Geneva Human Rights Council today (23). This time he is addressing the conference online. The government has appointed a committee headed by Minister Dinesh Gunawardena to represent the country at the summit.
Tharaka Balasuriya, Minister of State for Regional Cooperation, Prof. GL Peiris, Minister of Education, Nimal Siripala de Silva, Minister of Labor, Udaya Gammanpila, Minister of Energy and Rear Admiral Dr. Sarath Weerasekara, Minister of Public Defense are members of this committee. The nominated committee is also scheduled to attend the conference online today.
Addressing the media before attending the summit, External Affairs Minister Dinesh Gunawardena said that he and his delegation hoped to present accurate information on the situation in Sri Lanka to the summit members.
Meanwhile, a special report prepared by UN High Commissioner for Human Rights Michelle Bachelet against 9 countries including Sri Lanka will be released tomorrow at 7 pm local time.
A special resolution prepared by six countries that co-sponsored the allegations against Sri Lanka will also be presented at the summit. These include the United Kingdom, Canada, Montenegro, Northern Macedonia and Malawi, which are members of the UN Human Rights Council’s Central Group on Sri Lanka.
